January 2026

It is January 2026, National Dog Training Month! That is so exciting because the beginning of the New Year is all about new beginnings and building good habits. What better way to embrace this than by working with your dogs throughout the whole month of January?
It doesn’t need to be complicated. Training simple things such as eye contact, sit, come, etc., engages your dog in a fun way while fostering new habits and skills that can carry you both through the rest of the year!
January Contest – Be Featured on Our YouTube Channel and Website!
This month, we’re inviting all of our Pawsitive Dog Training friends to show off their pup’s skills. Submit a short video of your dog performing a command you’ve been working on—big or small!

The winner will have their video featured on our YouTube channel and on our website and receive a $10 Pure Pawsitivity gift card, treats, and a special treat pouch for their furry friend!
How to Enter:
Record a short video (≤30 seconds) of your dog performing a command or trick.
Submit your video through Facebook Messenger, by tagging us, or by commenting on one our Facebook posts.
All entries must be in by January 31, 2026.
We can’t wait to see all the amazing pups in action!
New Year, New Habits: Keep Your Pup Safe on Leash!

Speaking of New Year’s resolutions, here’s an important one for every dog owner: make sure your dog is on a leash while enjoying public places—whether that’s a park, residential area, or walking trail. Most public areas have leash laws for good reason!
"...dogs can have just as much fun on leash as off!"
Off-leash dogs can create a host of challenges that may lead to unhappy moments. Greeting other dogs on leash may be an unwelcome intrusion and could lead to altercations—not all dogs are friendly! Off-leash pups may also get into unsafe things like garbage or animal waste, or even cause property damage, such as chewing or digging, that they wouldn’t normally do on a leash. Not to mention, you may miss picking up any presents your dog leaves behind.
But don’t worry—dogs can have just as much fun on leash as off! If your dog needs some off-leash freedom, you can check out SniffSpot alone or with friends—safe off-leash fun for everyone! Using a long line is another great way to give your dog extra freedom while staying respectful and safe for others.
