Wow! It is already June! Can you believe we are already halfway through the year? July 4th is just a short ways away. With our Nations 250th anniversary coming up, now is the time to prepare. The celebrations are sure to be large and loud. Here are some tips to keep Fido safe.
Visit your vet to make sure your pet still has their microchip. They can migrate from the injection sight and sometimes it may have fallen out. Make sure to check your information on your servicer microchip website, and ensure it is active (many require a yearly subscription service) and has all your up-to-date information. This will help assure you that if your pet gets lost during the festivities and they are found that they will end up back home with you.
Another, important tip to consider, please leave your dog at home where they feel safest. Do not take them to loud, scary firework shows. Your dog does not belong there and will not enjoy themselves. They will be happier at home.
The day of the celebrations, make sure your furry friend has plenty of exercise before the fireworks start. Have some enrichment activities ready. Anything you can do to encourage licking and chewing releases endorphins into the brain and helps your dog relax. You can use frozen Kongs or Lickie Mats to accomplish this. Edible chews such as bully sticks, a frozen stuffed trachea, or cow ears are wonderful as well.
Having a quiet place for your dog to retreat to with white noise, soft music, or a fan running can be beneficial as well. Products like pheromones (collar, diffuser, or spray) present or Rescue Remedy can also be beneficial in helping to keep your best friend calm.
Double check doors and utilize baby gates to prevent any potential escape attempts. It seems every year a poor dog gets lost because they run out of their house. If your dog is an escape artist, get them a Tractive or Fii collar to track them via GPS. These are much more effective than an AirTag.
Personally, I skip the fireworks to stay home with all of my dogs to make sure everyone is safe and secure. We close the shades, play some music, turn a fan on, and everyone gets a chew or enrichment activity.
Meet the Pomeranian

The smallest of the Spitz breeds, the Pomeranian (known to some as the Zwergspitz) became popular after Queen Victoria fell in love with the breed during a trip to Italy. She became an enthusiastic Pomeranian breeder and showed six of her dogs at the 1891 Crufts dog show. One of her dogs won Best of Breed that year. She is also credited with helping develop the smaller version of the breed we know today.
This small dog is full of energy, is smart, and fun to train.

Sweet, shy Ellie has come a long way in the short time we have known each other. When we first met, she was so
shy and catious she would not even walk on a leash. With patience and dedication from her pet parents, she now will go on short "chicken walks" and has started to gain more confidence. She even flew on a plane to her summer home in Massachusetts! Miss Ellie is a kind and gentle soul. I am so very glad I got to know her.

My introductory appointment with Kennedi was excellent. She is very knowledgeable , kind, and patient regarding the breed of my Yorkshire Terrier. I am very confident with her teaching methods, and her understanding of dog behaviorsrs. I am confident her skills will benefit me and my Yorkie.
